Seeking the best suited applicant to join our team of hard working Health Professional. This position is one of a team of Phlebotomists based at the Redcliffe Hospital. The primary purpose of this position is to collect pathology specimens from patients within or attending the Redcliffe Hospital. The successful applicant will also be required to perform general lab duties.

The Redcliffe Laboratory is a member of the Prince Charles Hospital Group of Laboratories. The Prince Charles Hospital Group of laboratories includes The Prince Charles, Redcliffe and Caboolture Hospital Laboratories and whilst the primary work location is at the Redcliffe Laboratory working shifts between sites, including the Brighton Health Care Facility, may be required and will be undertaken with appropriate consultation.
Liaise with patients, medical and non-medical staff in a professional manner to ensure correct collection and processing of specimens and efficient operation of the specimen collection department.
Collection of appropriate quality blood and non-blood specimens from clients of Pathology Queensland as per documented protocols (including but not limited to adult and paediatric patients and in hospital wards, contact precaution rooms and outpatient clinics).
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated experience or ability to acquire experience in the correct procedures of specimen collection/phlebotomy including the application of established policies and guidelines with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of the importance of standard precautions in dealing with patients and biological specimens.
- Proven ability to follow instructions and work conscientiously and accurately with minimal supervision after careful instruction.
- Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff and colleagues
- Positive focus upon patient care within a hospital health care environment.
- Demonstrate a high level of commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrate data entry skills with the ability to work accurately and give attention to detail.
- Experience in or the ability to rapidly learn pre-analytical process in a large and complex specimen reception unit
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- Nil mandatory qualifications.
- While not mandatory, a Certificate in Pathology (Specimen Collection) or equivalent would be well regarded.
- Contemporary computer skills required for Data Entry, Excel and Word would be highly regarded.
- The successful applicant may be required to work shifts at the Redcliffe, The Prince Charles Hospital or Caboolture Pathology Queensland laboratories.
- Phlebotomists may be required to undertake Central Specimen Reception (CSR) training and work shifts in CSR as required.
