In this role you will:

- Provide authoritative legal advice (both written and oral) in relation to QCS activities and processes, recommended outcomes and decisions, emerging or current case law, legislative governance and risk mitigation. This advice may be in relation to contentious issues, often of a complex and sensitive nature, which may be the subject of litigation, and which are under consideration by the Minister, Commissioner, Executive Team and other senior QCS officers.
- Prepare timely advice, reports, correspondence and briefing notes on legal issues including statutory interpretation in relation to QCS activities and the law reform initiatives of external agencies.
- Liaise with Crown Law and other legal service providers to ensure a consistent, coordinated and effective approach to the provision of legal services involving QCS.
- Undertake legal research, analysis, review and evaluation to ensure that QCS' activities, including its operations and procedures, satisfy public sector standards for accountability and effectiveness.

Litigation (including in the High Court and Supreme Court), high level strategic legal advice, legislative development and commercial work are just some of the types of matters handled by the Command. The work is intellectually stimulating and highly rewarding. While the work is varied and there is opportunity to practice in multiple areas of the law, applicants with a commercial law background or a willingness to learn commercial law are strongly encouraged to apply.

With flexible work arrangements, supportive managers and a commitment to personal and professional development of all staff, lawyers at QCS are part of a team which lives the QCS values of being professional, ethical and respectful.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
