OO5 Ranger - Airlie Beach (Temporary)

As a OO5 Ranger, you will report directly to and support the Ranger in Charge to plan and deliver the day-to-day work program in accordance with the business plan. You will lead and inspire a small team, inspire enthusiasm, and ensure their safety and wellbeing.

Working collaboratively with other Rangers, First Nations partners, volunteers and external contractors, you will deliver annual fire, pest, natural resource, visitor and asset management programs and undertake plant and infrastructure maintenance tasks. You must be willing and able to work well in a small and dynamic team.

Protected areas and State forests within the Airlie Beach work unit include Conway, Dryander and Cape Upstart national parks. It will be essential that you already hold a manual driver's licence and are willing and able to live in, travel to, work and camp overnight in remote and isolated locations, in varying climatic conditions.

This is a great opportunity for those with a positive attitude and the ability to work as a member of a team - and occasionally alone.

While you do not need any tertiary qualifications, a formal qualification in a relevant discipline would be highly regarded, as would a certification to use agricultural chemicals and poisons and possession of a Queensland firearms licence.

To join our team as a OO5 Ranger, you must have the following skills:

• supervisory experience

• an ability to work with others to plan and deliver annual work programs and projects in protected areas

• administrative skills - for compiling reports, maintaining records and using computer systems and applications

• experience managing human resources and budget processes

• highly developed communication skills - to respond to client queries, provide advice and to carry out park patrols

• confidence undertaking compliance and enforcement activities

• ability to establish and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including park neighbours and authority holders

• experience operating and maintaining plant and equipment (or the ability to rapidly acquire)

• a willingness to support and promote the interests of First Nations people

Mandatory requirements

You must hold a current unrestricted manual driver's licence. You do not require tertiary qualifications to undertake this position, however a certificate in Conservation and Land Management or a related discipline will be highly regarded.

Please note, no accommodation is provided. Airlie Beach is a beautiful location, with limited accommodation options in the township. You may need to consider a short commute.

Before applying, contact the panel chair to seek further information about the role.

• information that will help us understand how you could contribute to our workforce diversity - noting, our department values equity and diversity.

• evidence of the above listed mandatory requirements to confirm your eligibility.
