The Indigenous Service Support Officer key responsibilities are:

  • Assist and support youth justice staff and relevant community stakeholders in culturally appropriate assessment, case planning and interventions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families in accordance with relevant legislative provisions, statutory delegations, departmental policies, procedures, and contemporary best practice.
  • Implement culturally appropriate individualised case plans through designing and implementing intervention strategies, negotiating with service providers, and linking clients to the services/supports they require (including formal and informal services, government and non-government agencies).
  • Consult and effectively work with relevant stakeholders including families, elders, other key community members, community agencies and government departments to enhance the capacity of these stakeholders to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families subject to youth justice interventions and their families.
  • Undertake a range of record and information management tasks including maintenance of case notes and records, preparation of reports and performance reporting
  • Participate productively and collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team involving a range of internal and external stakeholders and service providers to achieve quality casework outcomes.

  • Citizenship/visa: to be appointed to a position, you must be an Australian citizen, have permanent residency status or a visa permitting you to work in Australia.
  • A probationary period may apply to successful applicants to permanent roles who are external to the public service (unless advised otherwise), after which time confirmation of appointment will be dependent upon satisfactory performance review.
  • Successful applicants will be subject to a criminal history check or blue card screening.
  • It is a mandatory requirement for the occupant of this position to hold a driver's licence or be prepared to obtain a driver's licence if they do not. Officers are required to drive government vehicles as a part of their day-to-day work
  • This role provides support services to children and young people and therefore will require a valid Blue Card with the organisation. Please refer to the Blue Card Services website (http://www.bluecard.qld.gov.au/) for further information.
  • While the position is based in Toowoomba travel within the region for site visits and to other regional officers will be required in this role. This includes overnight stays.
