Adventure Intervention Officer. Department of Youth Justice. The Outlook, Boonah.

• Operate as an effective representative, to implement relevant actions identified in the Outlook Business Plan within established policies and procedures as directed.
• Contributes own expertise to deliver ABL programs for young offenders or those at risk of offending.
• Be able to interpret work environments to design, develop and evaluate ABL programs linked to case management objectives.
• Operate as an effective member of the team deliver and assess training in ABL for Government and Non-government staff who work with young offenders or those at risk of offending.

Technical/Role Specific Capabilities

Qualifications are not mandatory but skills and experience in the following will be an advantage:-

  • Current instructor level accreditation in two outdoor activities.
  • Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation or equivalent.
  • Certificate IV in Work Place Training and Assessment.
  • Certificate IV in Youth Justice.

Successful applicants who do not initially possess the above will be supported to obtain these qualifications.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who don't possess the above skills but are willing to undertake training to acquire them are encouraged to apply.

  • Experience in design, facilitation, risk management and evaluation of Adventure Based Learning programs.
  • Two years experience in the human service industry and can demonstrate experience in an area that involves one of the following, youth, small group work leading to behavioral change, personal development and/or therapeutic change and case management. 
  • Possession of an Australian Drivers Licence.

It is a requirement to provide an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person who is recognised and accepted in the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community as a referee.

This is a field staff position which works under a workplace agreement and means that the role includes the requirement to regularly work after hours and be on-call.
