The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) regional network provides localised service delivery across the departmental priority areas of employment, small business and training.

The department's strategic objectives are to increase the State's economic readiness by fostering a culture of engagement with the community. We do this by connecting Queensland small businesses and other key stakeholder groups to the programs and tools they need to invest in themselves and their future, engage and participate in the economy and employ and respond to change.

About the role
As Principal Program Officer, you will specifically:
• Lead the management, monitoring and review of projects, programs and systems which directly support the implementation of government priorities and programs, inclusive of supporting small business resilience through collaboration with industry and community stakeholders.
• Develop, implement, and monitor a range of operational policies and practices which facilitate and support best practice across the operations of the department, including program delivery, stakeholder engagement and events.
• Carry out performance reporting and analysis, including the use of contemporary recording and reporting frameworks to inform strategic decision making, resource management and local planning processes.
• Provide supervisory and leadership support through mentoring and coaching activities to enhance professional development, displaying professionalism, integrity and leading by example.
• Represent the department at a variety of forums, working parties and committees, establish networks, and build and maintain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

What we are looking for
The position requires an applicant who can:
• Demonstrated high level program and project management skills with knowledge of the vocational education and training and small business sectors in Queensland.
• Highly developed conceptual, analytical, research and computer skills as demonstrated by a record of analysis of information, data and trends, the preparation and presentation of findings through reports and presentations, and contribution to the achievement of department objectives.
• Ability to build and sustain effective relationships with a range of stakeholders, management and staff as evidenced by the achievement of business objectives and performance targets.
• Well-developed planning and organisation skills, including the ability to meet expectations and deadlines, through the achievement of results and accurate completion of work within pre-determined time frames and a framework of accountability.
