Are you up for the challenge?
As a ranger in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Parks, you will assist with marine park priorities aligned with our 5-year Business Strategy and Annual Business Plan. Your work will involve both above and below the water, participating in vessel-based operations and flights in light aircraft or helicopters. You will support the Ranger-in-Charge (Infrastructure) within the Far North Management Unit, focusing on Assets and Infrastructure management. Additionally, you will collaborate with State and Commonwealth agencies on compliance and enforcement activities related to marine zoning and conservation, while promoting awareness and appreciation for the environment among park users.
The Location:
You will be located in Cairns, the gateway to the incredible Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Whilst working in one of Australia's most beautiful and remote locations, you will have the opportunity to spend up to 80 days at sea exploring vibrant coral reefs, pristine waters and remote islands.
Role focus:
- Lead and Supervise: Oversee a work group to achieve project outcomes while ensuring effective task delivery.
- Team Collaboration: Contribute to annual work program planning for recreational and infrastructure maintenance, managing resources within budget.
- Project Management: Plan and execute projects related to park infrastructure, resource management, fire management, and pest control.
- Reporting and Compliance: Maintain records, manage budgets, and assist with compliance and enforcement tasks, including investigations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build productive relationships with stakeholders, including local communities, and promote First Nations interests through your work.
To be considered you must:
- Hold an unrestricted manual driver's license
- Provide your current resume (max 6 pages), and
- Provide a short statement (max 3 pages) explaining your interest in the role, what strengths you will bring relevant to the ‘role focus' section of this ad.
- Have good physical health for this hands-on role.
