Transition Officer
Youth Justice; Region – Sunshine Coast and Central – Youth Justice; Service Delivery – Youth Justice; Mooloolaba
The department is committed to keeping Queensland communities safe, supporting victims and actively tackling the complex causes of youth crime and targeting serious repeat offenders. We do this by providing early intervention, statutory Youth Justice, and detention services to ensure that young people are held accountable for their offending behaviour. We help support them to become responsible members of the community.
The role of the Transition Officer is to provide assistance and ongoing support to young people to re-engage in education or training and/or secure and sustain employment, with an overarching goal of reducing reoffending by young people in the youth justice system.

As a Transition Officer, you will specifically:
- Assist in preparing young people to participate and engage in education, training and employment programs as required; and support the development of their interpersonal and self-regulation skills.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team to plan, deliver and refer young people to education, training, and employment.
- Work effectively within a statutory and non-statutory environment to provide support to young people during education, vocational training, work experience and employment.
- Collect and maintain accurate data and client records in accordance with relevant statutory, legislative, policy and procedural requirements.
- Identify, liaise, and maintain strong working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders and community partners.
- Contribute to a departmental culture that ensures sensitive and effective communication with people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds as well as an appreciation of cultural protocols and an awareness of the impacts of historical policies and practices.
