The Role:
This opportunity is in the First Nations Engagement team managed from the Water Monitoring and Compliance, North Region group. You will work collaboratively across the state on policies and approaches. You will undertake a lead role in developing relationships with First Nations peoples across Queensland improving the ability for the department to effectively engage with First Nations peoples to ensure that their interests are included in water planning and management activities.

Key to the role is building strong relationships with First Nations peoples and other water user representatives, community groups, as well as across the department, state agencies and with other jurisdictions.

The position is based with flexible locations within the scenic Murray Darling Basin including Toowoomba, St. George, Warwick or Goondiwindi.

Key Accountabilities:
• Undertake research and analysis to support development of policy and strategy to inform best practice stewardship of the state's finite resources.
• Provide quality written contributions to support the preparation of complex reports, briefing notes, legislation, presentations, speeches, publications and correspondence.
• Prepare timely advice on a range of strategic policy and regulatory issues and identify ways to optimise sustainable outcomes.
• Manage the implementation of communication strategies by preparing communication aids including information sheets, PowerPoint presentations and other material as required.
• Drive the development of effective partnerships to achieve policy outcomes and deliver on government commitments.
• Lead and mentor staff in their development to ensure the necessary skills and motivation exist to respond to service delivery requirements.

About You:
• This is a targeted position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates.
• Knowledge of and experience in engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is highly desirable.
• Experience or qualifications in water management, communication or engagement disciplines would be advantageous.
• A track record of managing stakeholder engagement for policy-related projects and delivering strategic communication services.
• An ability to develop strategy and policies to deliver on government objectives and promote positive community outcomes.
• Travel away from the centre may be required.
