Your contribution:
This position is responsible for providing technical assistance to implement tenure resolution and deliver post land transfer support within the Cape York Peninsula Tenure Resolution Program. This will involve working cooperatively with First Nations people to plan, deliver and report on land management projects on Aboriginal Freehold lands and Nature Refuges, providing technical advice and support to stakeholders and the development of solutions to improve economic participation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Support the development and delivery of formal agreements between the State and Cape York Peninsula Traditional Owners and which adhere to relevant policies and legislation.
Travel statement:
• This position in based in Cairns, however, may require regular travel to remote locations, including extended overnight stays.
Your role:
As the Senior Project Officer, AO5 you will:
• Contribute to a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
• Develop, coordinate and implement projects in partnership with Traditional Owners; projects may involve the collation of cultural heritage data, planning and implementing fire and weed management projects, installation of small-scale infrastructure to support tourism opportunities and connection to country, and other projects to achieve improved economic participation outcomes on Aboriginal Freehold Land in Cape York Peninsula.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key Departmental and governmental bodies, Cape York Land Trust and Aboriginal Corporation land managers, and provide advice as required.
• Assist in the preparation and/or coordination of briefing notes, program plans, submissions, reports and correspondence associated with the program and projects.
• Provide training and logistical support to Cape York Land Trust and Aboriginal Corporations as required.
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
