You’ll deliver a blend of theory and hands-on practical training, helping students build foundational engineering skills and confidence as they prepare for apprenticeships.

What You'll Be Doing:
As a teacher at Mackay Engineering College, you'll guide Year 11 and 12 students through their Certificate II in Engineering Pathways—a two-year vocational program that blends classroom learning with real-world experience. You will deliver tailored instruction to small classes, focusing on hands-on, practical skill development while closely monitoring student progress and providing meaningful, constructive feedback to support their learning. Your role will also involve supporting students during their work placements by conducting on-site visits, offering guidance, and assessing their workplace skills. Collaborating with local industry partners, you will help students transition into apprenticeships or further study, ensuring they are well-prepared for their future careers. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and fully equipped workshop, training students in line with current safety and PPE standards. With a commitment to inclusive education, you will employ flexible teaching strategies to support diverse learners and create an engaging, supportive learning environment.

Who We're Looking For:
We're seeking educators with a strong industry background, teaching experience, and a student-first mindset. Ideally, you will bring:
- Evidence of continuity in delivering vocational training programs like Cert II in Engineering — crucial for student success in our two-year course.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, update, and deliver training programs and matrixes aligned with RTO requirements.
- Experience mentoring student groups and individuals to support learning and skill development.
- Familiarity with completing industry-standard safety documentation (e.g. JSAs, SLAMs, hazard/incident reports).
- Recent (within the last two years) industry engagement, such as working with engineering organisations, employers, or professional bodies.
Applicants for these positions must possess:
- Relevant teaching qualification (more info here).
- TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Current industry experience in engineering
- Current Queensland teacher registration (full or provisional). Details here.
