SES is the primary responder for storm and flood events and provide support to other agencies such as Queensland Police Service through performing additional functions including search and rescue, emergency traffic management, and road crash rescue.

The SES becomes involved in preparing for, and responding to, many different types of disasters and emergencies. 

The role reporting to the Area Controller - Western Area, is responsible for providing high level support and advice to the SES groups to ensure effective preparation for and response to emergencies and disasters through the coordination and delivery of training and activities to build the capability of volunteers.

Your Key Accountabilities 

The Core Capability Requirements for this role are:

  • Manage, evaluate and support regional based SES operational development and assessment activities in line with organisational standards, relevant legislation and the national standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
  • Manage staff and volunteer trainers to ensure compliance with organisational standards, relevant legislation and the national standards for RTOs.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients and stakeholders to enhance understanding, commitment to and achievement of emergency response objectives and best practice.
  • Coordinate, manage and report on area and regional based staff and volunteer training, assessment, professional development and moderation activities, including conferences, seminars and workshops.
  • Contribute to the development and review of operational development, and assessment policies, procedures and resources for the SES in line with operational requirements, industry best practice, competency based training principles and the standards for RTO requirements.
  • Manage the SES operational development program and budget in accordance with approved operational planning requirements, providing advice to the management on operational development issues.
  • Manage/procure SES equipment and assets in accordance with allocated financial budgets as required.
  • Undertake and support SES operational duties during emergencies and disasters as necessary which may involve intra and interstate deployments including travel to rural and remote communities, at short notice and out of business hours.

Role Requirements:

Mandatory 

  • Minimum C Class Driver's Licence (non-restricted). Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience 
  • Experience as a volunteer or within a volunteer environment is highly desirable.
  • Experience with the delivery of training and hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification or can obtain the skill within a mutually agreed timeframe.

Other

  • This role is a designated SES uniformed position.
  • Capacity to work on night and weekends to suit an SES volunteer environment.
  • It is expected that the incumbent will participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster during emergency operations.
    This may require work outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends, working extended hours and may include travel to rural and remote communities, intrastate or interstate travel as necessary and/or deployment activities to other parts of the state.
