The Capricorn Coast Hospital, located in the coastal town of Yeppoon, Central Queensland, is seeking a Senior Medical Officer (Rural Generalist or Provisional Fellow) to join its experienced team. Yeppoon, just 25 minutes from Rockhampton, is renowned for its beaches, tropical climate, and vibrant seaside communities, home to around 37,000 residents.

As an SMO, you’ll provide high-quality medical services, support the Clinical Director in managing clinical operations, and mentor Registrars, RMOs, and Medical Students. This role offers a unique opportunity to deliver exceptional care while enjoying the stunning Capricorn Coast lifestyle.

The Capricorn Coast Hospital is based in Yeppoon, a coastal town in Central Queensland, Australia. Yeppoon is renowned for its beaches, tropical climate, and the islands out on the bay. Twenty-five minutes from the city of Rockhampton, Yeppoon is the principal town on the Capricorn Coast, a string of seaside communities stretching more than 150 kilometres from north to south, in which approximately 37,000 people live.

About the role:

The Senior Medical Officer (SMO) (Rural Generalist or Provisional Fellow) provides high quality medical services to the Capricorn Coast Hospital and Health Service. This is your chance to join a welcoming, energetic and experienced team providing great care to the beautiful Capricorn Coast.

About you:

  • MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Current ALS Certification. Enrolment and maintenance of ongoing CME program with the appropriate bodies.
  • High level of clinical knowledge, proficiency and skills extending across the broad range of medical practice relevant to a medium size rural hospital and an ability to prepare comprehensive and concise documentation of all clinical observations, opinions, diagnoses, other data, and procedures undertaken.
  • High level of skill in trauma management, general and emergency medicine.

Salary information:

Total remuneration value of up to $458,662 p.a. is comprised of:

  • A salary rate between $182,106 - $187,801 p.a. (L13-L14)
  • A salary rate between $182,106 - $210,332 p.a. (L13-L18)
  • A salary rate between $210,332 - $251,527 p.a. (L18-L25)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
