Senior Clinical Coder

Metro South Health are looking for a Senior Clinical Coder to join their team. The Senior Coder is responsible for accurately assigning morbidity and procedural classifications to patient episodes in compliance with Queensland Health’s data reporting requirements. Recognized for their advanced clinical coding skills and knowledge, the Senior Coder has expertise across a broad range of specialties in a tertiary setting, gained through extensive on-the-job experience. Additionally, the role requires effective communication with clinicians to ensure the provision of documentation that supports the quality of coded data.

About the Role
- Under the direction of the Coding Manager, the role involves guiding and mentoring clinical coders to align with organizational goals, guidelines, and relevant legislation. It includes managing auditing, data verification, and clinical liaison through quality systems to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of inpatient morbidity data.
- Highly developed knowledge of anatomy, clinical disease processes, medical practices, pharmacology, diagnostic and procedural terminology.
- Utilise the 3M Codefinder software, relevant patient information systems, and related pathology, and associated databases to assist in verification and allocation of ICD-10-AM codes.
- Develops more effective and efficient work practices through education sessions with clinicians by participate in and contribute to the coder-clinician liaison program to verify clinical documentation for coding purposes.
