The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service covers a large geographic area with a diverse and growing population. The Health Service provides a wide range of primary care, acute and specialist services.
Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service covers an area of 142,900 square kilometres. We go as far as Tully in the south, Cow Bay in the north and Croydon in the west.
About your opportunity:
The primary function of this position is to provide high quality clinical care to patients of Cairns Hospital and to participate in training in the particular speciality in which the Registrar/Principal House Officer is employed. The position may be required to provide clinical care to other facilities within the district being as follows: Cairns Base Hospital, Atherton Hospital, Babinda Hospital, Innisfail Hospital, Tully Hospital, Mossman Multipurpose Health Service, Gordonvale Hospital, Mareeba Hospital and Yarrabah Hospital.
About you role:
- To ensure comprehensive, accurate and concise medical records are maintained for patients with an appropriate signed and dated legible entry in the patient's medical record on every attendance upon a patient. The Medical Officer should also print his/her name under the signature.
- Contribute to quality patient care by participation in case planning which includes appropriate pre-admission planning, in-hospital care and discharge planning.
- To provide assistance with surgical procedures and outpatient clinics as directed by the Consultant to which assigned.
- To arrange investigations, surgical treatment, medical treatment and discharge as directed by the Consultant to which assigned.
- Participate in the provision of an on-call roster or a shift roster to provide services out of hours, at night and on weekends, as directed by the relevant Director.
- To participate in country relieving as required. Up to three months may be spent relieving in other hospitals in the region.
