As the Principal Policy Officer, you will provide strategic and policy leadership, working to address complex challenges within Queensland's innovation sector. You will bring a proactive and collaborative approach to your work, building strong relationships with stakeholders and translating complex issues into clear, evidence[1]based policy recommendations.

You will:

  • Identify new and existing issues requiring development / review of policies and undertake research and analysis into these issues to develop evidence-based advice to senior management.
  • Provide strategic advice and knowledge translation to internal and external stakeholders about the Government's innovation policy, governance, priorities and programs.
  • Lead or contribute to the preparation and development of high-level advice, Cabinet submissions, responses, plans, reports, policy documents, briefing notes, and other departmental correspondence such as presentations, strategic policy and research papers.
  • Develop and administer a range of initiatives and actions across allocated programs that will ultimately create high-value jobs and provide positive economic outcomes, while also undertaking relevant activities such as program development, stakeholder management, preparing research papers, developing policy positions, and contract management.
  • Create and foster relationships across the innovation ecosystem through constructive conversations that support innovation across Queensland.
  • Identify opportunities to grow the Queensland innovation ecosystem and collaborate across the Queensland's priority industry sectors.
  • Work strategically to actively solve problems and deliver outcomes and results in a dynamic environment while maintaining professional processes and protocols.
  • Represent the department, as appropriate, at industry / stakeholder events, meetings and working groups in an effective and professional manner.
  • Actively collaborate, contribute and provide leadership in fostering a team environment and positive culture, where team members enjoy coming to work, are appropriately skilled and challenged, and understand the contributions their role plays in the success of business outcomes
  • Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
