The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers (DLGWV), previously known as the Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water, is at the forefront of driving sustainable growth across Queensland. Our mission is to manage water resources responsibly and empower councils to support and grow Queensland communities. With over 700 dedicated professionals across Brisbane and regional offices, we work tirelessly to ensure that Queensland's communities, businesses, and water resources thrive.
The Role
The Strategic Water Initiatives Branch is a high-energy group of people committed to developing future directions on urban water management, First Nations water interests, climate risk management, and supporting the implementation of priority water-related projects and initiatives.
Exciting leadership opportunities are available in the Strategic Water Initiatives team; these are new teams that will drive strategic and coordinated responses for priority water projects with complex stakeholder management. They will provide strategic advice on specific projects as well as state-wide positions on emerging policy trends (e.g., pumped hydro, Lower Burdekin groundwater) and be a driving force for statewide engagement of the water industry. You will use your demonstrated knowledge of policy, programme management, procurement, contract management, and stakeholder management, amongst other skills, to support the delivery of the projects.
Key Duties and Accountabilities
• Lead a team in the development of policy and program proposals driving strategic and coordinated responses and innovative solutions for priority water projects with complex stakeholder management.
• Prepare high quality policy papers, briefs, reports, including cabinet submissions and other significant policy and project management papers on departmental priorities and strategic initiatives.
• Develop and maintain productive partnerships with a complex range of stakeholders, and leverage resourcing from internal and external partners, to ensure successful negotiation on strategic projects and initiatives.
• Coordinate and manage information sharing, consultation and negotiations between the project team, the Department, other Queensland Government agencies and industry stakeholders to enable the delivery of project objectives in a timely manner.
• Build and manage positive working relationships and partnerships with colleagues and with other levels of government and industry organisations to achieve the project objectives and deliver on Government commitments.
About You
• Whilst not mandatory, a bachelor's degree and/or undergraduate degree in a relevant field will be highly regarded.
• You will have demonstrated leadership experience in the delivery of high-priority, complex, and time-restrained projects.
• Travel away from the centre may be required. This may involve travel outside of normal office hours and/or overnight accommodation for extended periods.
