The Role
With a mandate to lead through complexity, you will influence at the highest levels, and embed a robust regulatory culture grounded in strategic insight, practical outcomes, and continuous improvement. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Governance, Risk, Ethics and Assurance, a key component of this role is to provide leadership and oversight of QBCC's Internal Review division, a critical function providing customers with a pathway for an independent no-cost internal review of a disputed QBCC assessment.
With the support of two managers and an indirect remit of circa 25, the successful incumbent will:
- Oversee the service delivery of QBCC's independent internal review process.
- Lead and implement regulatory assurance and audit frameworks aligned with QBCC's strategic objectives, relevant legislation, and contemporary best practices, ensuring high standards of compliance, accountability, and governance across all regulatory functions.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and reporting of a comprehensive program of risk-based audits, regulatory inspections, compliance reviews, and internal assurance activities, ensuring these processes are well-integrated and strategically aligned to provide valuable insights for continuous operational improvement.
- Drive continuous improvement and a lessons-learned culture by embedding the Regulatory Assurance Framework and promoting risk-based decision-making, while also championing initiatives that strengthen regulatory maturity and build capability across the broader organisation.
- Provide strategic leadership and performance management to a diverse, multidisciplinary team, creating a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture that prioritises employee development, business excellence and innovation.
- Engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including industry bodies, other regulators, and internal business units to proactively identify regulatory gaps, trends, and opportunities, and ensuring robust action is taken in response to audit findings and compliance risks.
- Deliver high-quality advice and reporting to the Senior Leadership Team, QBCC Board, and relevant committees on complex regulatory and audit issues.
About You
With demonstrated expertise in in assurance, regulatory compliance, and internal audit, you are a confident, emotionally intelligent leader who knows how to bring people along with you. You thrive in complex, regulated environments with a proven ability to interpret and communicate complex legislation. Adept at leading change in complex, multi-stakeholder environment, you possess a collaborative, coaching-focussed leadership style with exceptional interpersonal skills.
A background in Law, highly regulated industries and/or Government are all highly regarded. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline are also advantageous.
