Your role within Policy, Performance and First Nations will support the department to develop and implement housing & homelessness strategies and policies to support service delivery and drive housing & homelessness reform to deliver outcomes for First Nations peoples & communities.
First Nations Housing & Homelessness contribute to achieving the housing outcome under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.
You will be part of First Nations Housing & Homelessness, leading strategic engagement activities and will establish and strengthen links within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities with stakeholders, service providers, tenants and customers to support the delivery of person-centred, placed-based housing services and culturally appropriate housing solutions for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples in remote and regional communities in Queensland.

TARGETED VACANCY (IDENTIFIED POSITION) -

• Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and either,
- Is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; or
- Is accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.
What you will be doing:
• Lead an Engagement and Partnerships Team and actively contribute as a member of the work unit's leadership in the development and promotion of the strategic vision and the implementation of that vision to achieve safe, secure and sustainable housing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities across Queensland.
• Represent the department in sensitive and complex consultations and negotiations to optimise person-centred and culturally appropriate housing solutions.
• Ensure the effective, safe and proper management of staff and physical and financial resources in accordance with the department's Human Resource, Financial and Service Delivery frameworks including its strategic objectives, and relevant legislation, policies and contemporary best practice standards.
• Lead effective workforce and workload planning and management and ensure recruitment, performance management and learning and development processes are in place and reflect organisational priorities.
• Establish and support a high-performance workplace culture characterised by honesty, trust, inclusion, transparency, accountability and continuous learning and improvement to ensure the effective delivery of an ambitious housing reform agenda.
• Undertake targeted collaboration and codesign activities to enhance the role of engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customers, tenants andcommunities in informing and determining policies and programs relating to First Nations Housing and Homelessness.
• Progress place-based planning in remote, regional and urban communities across Queensland to support the delivery of improved housing outcomes.
• Have a well-developed knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures, including the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in contemporary Australian society, and apply that experience to the delivery of housing services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
• Engage effectively with key stakeholders, including communicating sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on matters relevant to the delivery of the Government's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander housing policies and programs.
• Lead and ensure you establish and maintain a workplace safety culture by ensuring that all policies and practices concerning Workplace Health and Safety are applied and a part of day-to-day operations.
