The role
Reporting to the Manager, Finance, you will undertake the purchasing of forensic laboratory supplies, ensuring distribution, stock rotation and stock-takes are conducted in the required manner. Applying your knowledge of inventory management, purchasing and finance regulations as well as your skills using S/4HANA in a complex scientific environment, you will:
- Create orders for forensic laboratory consumables from central wholesalers and external suppliers using recommended order requirements, determined by scientific knowledge of changing laboratory usage patterns
- Maintain the integrity of laboratory inventory by regular stocktaking, stock rotation, expiry date validation and records maintenance
- Receipt invoices for stock received, ensuring accuracy of pricing and units
- Prepare invoices and the accounts payable extract for financial processing and prompt payment of accounts
- Prepare monthly reports for the Manager
- Ensure stocktake counts are conducted in compliance with Department of Justice Finance Management Practice Manual (FMPM)
- Minimise wastage through the effective and regular review of stock usage, minimum stock levels and reorder points
- Conduct investigations into stock discrepancies, unusual consumables usage and consumables wastage to provide advice on corrective action for the Manager, Finance
- Support the Business Services team with purchasing and finance activities

The successful person
You will have:
- Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the concepts of inventory management, purchasing and finance regulations.
- Sound knowledge of/ability to rapidly obtain knowledge of the current inventory management software packages (S/4HANA) and the ability to use a variety of software packages including Microsoft Office suite.
- Sound written and numeric skills which include computer data entry and financial reconciliations
- It would be desirable to have knowledge of contracts including Standing Offer Arrangements.
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate, consult and explain concepts at all levels both internal and external to the organisation.
- Evidence of required vaccination

Located at Coopers Plains, Brisbane, FSQ operates specialised Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry and Forensic Operations functions that provides forensic services and expert advice to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the Coroner's Court of Queensland.
Our work at FSQ involves exposure to material related to deaths and criminal offences that may be confronting, due to its graphic and personal nature. Sensitive and professional management of exhibits and information is a critical requirement of this role. Please note that Forensic Science Queensland has recently been through a Machinery of Government change, and as of 1 July 2024, was administratively assigned to the Department of Justice.
