Join our team as an Assistant Electorate Officer for Mr Tom Smith MP, Member for Bundaberg in the Bundaberg Electorate Office.  In this multifaceted role, you'll provide comprehensive support to Mr Smith MP, ensuring smooth operations within the Electorate Office.

About the role

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Electorate Office staff with administrative functions, such as diary and events, monitoring emails, answering phones and triaging enquiries.
  • Assisting Electorate Office staff and the Member with monitoring social media, creating content and engaging with online forums, news, and maintain a positive social media presence.
  • Managing media enquiries and liaising with local media to arrange press conferences, develop media releases, and monitor news outlets.
  • Creating and editing visual content (graphics, images, short videos) to complement social media posts, mailouts, and eNewsletters.
  • Undertaking research into various issues and staying up-to-date with current affairs.
  • Liaising with constituents who contact the electorate office for information and assistance.
  • Supporting and engaging with community groups directly or through established external forums.

About you            

To ensure success in this role, you should possess the following skills:

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with a broad range of clients and stakeholders.
  • Comprehensively use a range of PC software packages.
  • Experience in navigating the media landscape and adept at digital content creation.
  • Proficiency with digital tools and experience in website and media monitoring.
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise tasks to ensure deadlines are met.
  • The ability to work both autonomously and as part of a small team.
  • A solid grasp of the Queensland political landscape and current affairs would be beneficial but not mandatory.
