THE OPPORTUNITY:
As the Science Leader for Crop Genetics, you will provide the strategic leadership for our world-leading grain and pulse genetic improvement program. You will champion advanced genetics to grow Queensland's broadacre industries to achieve the Queensland Government's target of a $30 Billion agriculture sector by 2030. You will combine your scientific talent, zest for innovation with your industry experience to drive research and development, and explore emerging opportunities for Queensland's broadacre sector.
You will provide leadership in the planning, management, and supervision of a portfolio of crop genetics research and development (R&D) focused on sorghum, mungbean and pigeonpea genetic improvement. You will provide leadership by advancing, internally and externally, the science delivered by your team, develop long-term perspective on R&D priorities, demonstrate high level communication and interpersonal skills and adopt clear communication strategies.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR (qualifications, experience):
You must possess the following mandatory qualifications:-
• Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in a relevant discipline from a recognised tertiary institution
• A postgraduate qualification of a Doctoral degree (AQF level 10 or equivalent) would be highly regarded
You will have a high-level of strategic knowledge, or the ability to acquire high level knowledge, of current and future trends in the Crop Genetics discipline area and associated industry opportunities and constraints on a state, national and international level. This role requires you to have highly developed analytical skills, including experience in attracting external funding and managing complex budgets to deliver on financial targets and to control expenditure against budget allocations.
