The Role
Operating from within the North Region Water Planning and Science team, you will be involved in the development of innovative management solutions and policy for the development of Water Plans, Water Management Protocols and other policy relating to the efficient and sustainable management of Queensland's water resources. Undertake the review and replacement of the Georgina Diamantina water plan and ongoing reviews of additional water plans in the future.
Key Accountabilities:
• Lead staff and coordinate water planning activities including input from multi- disciplinary teams to ensure delivery of water planning functions and business objectives.
• Consult and negotiate with internal and external clients in the delivery of water planning and science initiatives including facilitating stakeholder input for the development and implementation of water plans.
• Oversight of team outputs, including reports and correspondence to ensure quality outcomes, sound conclusions and consistent application of water management policy and legislation.
• Support in the formulation of practical and innovative water allocation and management policies, methodologies and programs.
• Interpret and apply legislation, specifically the Water Act 2000 and associated subordinate legislation, regulation and policy, to achieve water planning and management outcomes.
• Provide technical expertise and specialist policy advice to Departmental staff, and senior management on water allocation and management policy issues of state-wide
and national strategic significance.
• Prepare specifications and manage contracts for the provision of consulting services covering a range of specialist disciplines including hydrology, ecology, social/economic studies and information technology.
About You
• Hold a degree or higher qualification from a recognised tertiary institution in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or equivalent. Along with demonstrated technical knowledge and experience in water planning and management.
• Project management and prioritisation skills.
• Well developed communication skills to negotiate with key stakeholders and provide input into discussion papers, cabinet submissions, media publications and policy to support state and national initiatives.
• Ability to lead and work collaboratively with the team to inspire collective ownership of quality outcomes.
• Pursues continuous growth and development for team members.
• Travel away from the centre may be required.
