The Metro South Palliative Care Service is looking for a Staff Specialist to join its team. High-quality clinical care for palliative patients and their families within the catchment area of the Metro South Health (MSH. Clinical leadership for the interdisciplinary team serving palliative care patients within the MSH catchment area. Input into the planning and delivery of all aspects of medical palliative care service provision across MSPCS, including clinical, educational, research, practice improvement and administrative processes.

About the Role
The Staff Specialist Palliative Care will be required to develop and implement educational programs in palliative care at both graduate and undergraduate level, contribute to Hospital Grand Rounds and other education sessions, provide support and supervision of junior medical staff, including palliative care trainee registrars, and to be involved in palliative care research projects.
This role provides specialist palliative clinical care to patients and assumes overall responsibility for patient care at Metro South Hospital and Health Service. The role will participate in the provision of clinical care to patients of the hospital and health service including:
- Participate in patient history taking and diagnosis, including ordering relevant tests.
- Advocate for the patients which includes protecting the patient, being the patient's voice, provision of quality care and interpersonal relationship as well as educating the patient.
- Participate in the development of patients' treatment and development plans.
- Participate in the provision of emergency treatment to patients.
- Ensure treatment orders are appropriately documented (including medications and general management plans).
