About the role
Senior Practitioners are responsible for providing specialist advice, guidance and oversight to ensure that service response planning including assessment, intervention, casework and case management are delivered within the region to a high standard and in accordance with legislation and practice guidelines.
The Senior Practitioner will have a role in oversight and monitoring of custody and transition supports for young people supervised by Youth Justice Services in the South East Region.
The Senior Practitioner provides practice supervision individually and in groups with the purpose of instilling a culture of continuous growth and improvement in all areas of regional practice.

Key responsibilities
The Senior Practitioner key responsibilities are:
• Ensuring accountable, collaborative and integrated Youth Justice services that respect the culture and context of each child, young person, family and community is delivered in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, statutory responsibilities and the Framework for Practice.
• Advising Youth Justice staff, partners and stakeholders on collaborative practice concerning young people who are emerging or serious repeat offenders. This may include actively participating as part of a multi-agency, collaborative panel.
• Developing and implementing systems, processes and strategies linked to legislative, policy and practice standards, optimizing the quality of Youth Justice service delivery, including contributing to continuous quality improvement strategies.
• Providing practice supervision as required to support a ‘quality practice' and a continuous improvement service delivery ethos.
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with Regional leadership and frontline staff to build capability, skills and knowledge in Youth Justice service delivery particularly relating to implementing service response planning based on the Risk, Needs and Responsivity principles.
• Facilitating group practice development and supervision sessions to build capability within the Region.
• Supporting staff, partners and community stakeholders across the region in relation to complex matters within your area of specialist knowledge.
• Actively participating as a member of the Regional Leadership Team in forming and reviewing regional plans and priorities.
• Providing authoritative advice, guidance and oversight of decisions on complex casework matters, Youth Justice policy, legislation and practice to relevant regional staff.
• Providing accurate advice on practice issues, custody arrangements, transition planning, client needs and service delivery responses within the region.
• Enhancing the local regional community by actively practicing and promoting excellence in service delivery and public administration and identifying opportunities for improving regional client service.
