The Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) is seeking a highly motivated and professional Executive Officer to deliver broad-based research, strategic advisory, and high-level executive support to the Assistant Commissioner(s) across a diverse range of portfolios. This pivotal role will contribute directly to the achievement of the QBCC’s strategic and operational objectives by ensuring the effective coordination of priorities, preparation of high-quality advice and briefing materials, and engagement across key internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, communication, and organisational skills, with a demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

This role is based in Brisbane and the successful candidate will have the option to engage in a work from home arrangement that suits the Division under an approved Flexible Work Arrangement.

Key Outcomes and Accountabilities

  • Provide high level quality executive, administrative, human resource, financial and operational services and advice to the Assistant Commissioner and Directors across multiple portfolios.
  • Manage and coordinate the business operations of the Office of the Assistant Commissioner, particularly with respect to operational and strategic planning and review, corporate governance, staff development and resource management.
  • Under broad direction either individually, as a member of a team or as manager of a team, provide tactical and operational leadership or project management expertise to ensure the effective development and delivery of services and projects within required timelines.
  • Manage the Division's strategic and operational planning and reporting processes, Annual Report contribution, and the Assistant Commissioner, achievement planning process

Candidate Attributes

  1.  Proven high level executive coordination, project management, strategic planning, administrative and problem solving skills in successfully dealing with complex issues in a public or private sector organisation, working to tight timelines.
  2.  Proven ability to facilitate and manage complex coordination processes, and related performance management processes and frameworks or similar.
  3.  Demonstrated capacity to effectively lead, manage, develop and foster an effective working relationship with internal and external customers in a complex and dynamic environment.
  4.  Demonstrated knowledge of Queensland legislation and policies as they relate to the building and construction industry or the ability to obtain on the job.
  5.  Superior interpersonal, written and oral communication skills including liaison, consultation and negotiation skills demonstrated through dealings with internal and external stakeholders in the preparation of reports, briefing papers and correspondence.
