Located in the vibrant suburb of Andergrove, Pioneer State High School, caters for Year 7 to Year 12 students. We offer a comprehensive and responsive curriculum, including specialised programs catering for the interests and talents of students. We also provide learning and engagement opportunities with the booming mining industry, through our association with the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy.

About the Role

The Guidance Officer role is integral to our secondary teaching team, providing expertise, leadership and professional support to our students and school community.  You will bring a passion for providing a comprehensive and responsive student support program to our school, and a strong desire to engage, connect and enhance learning outcomes for our students.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited, to the following:

• Provide counselling, psychoeducational assessment, and individual support to students, addressing educational, behavioural, career, mental health, and family issues.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and build strong relationships with parents, staff, and external agencies to optimise student engagement and access to educational programs.
• Assist students in decision-making for education, personal, social, and career development, offering ongoing support throughout implementation.
• Conduct student observations and assessments to identify learning difficulties, disabilities, and emotional or psychological needs, recommending appropriate interventions.
• Support the implementation of student protection, gifted and talented education, behaviour support policies, and risk management processes, including developing individual student plans.
• Provide secondary school support, including SET planning, career counselling, and future pathway options.
• Balance student privacy and confidentiality while meeting legal requirements for record-keeping and sharing information.
