Townsville Hospital and Health Service, is the public healthcare provider for the government areas of Townsville, Burdekin, Charters Towers, Flinders, Richmond, Hinchinbrook and Palm Island. We operate 21 facilities from primary care in regional locations to highly specialised care at the main hospital.

It is envisaged that this role will provide community and inpatient care to consumers from rural areas such as Palm Island and an interest in rural or Indigenous mental health would be an advantage.

What's on offer?
Remuneration package of up to $536,916 p.a., comprising base salary range of $210,332 - $266,677 p.a., (+ applicable allowances/benefits) (L18-L27), recreational leave loading (17.5%), and employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%), attraction and retention incentive allowance (50% base salary), regional and rural attraction allowance (5% base salary), motor vehicle allowance (between $21,000 and $25,000 p.a.), professional development allowance ($21,500 p.a. + 3.6 weeks p.a. leave), private practice arrangements, communications package, professional indemnity cover and inaccessibility allowance (if applicable).

Other employment benefits include: on-call and shift allowances (if applicable), flexible working arrangements, access to corporate discounts, staff wellness programs, generous leave entitlements and attractive salary sacrificing options.

Assistance with relocation expenses may also be available.

About the role
The THHS is looking for a Staff Specialist - Consultant Psychiatrist to:-

  • Provide an advanced standard of clinical care through the provision of assessment and treatment services to individuals presenting with psychiatric, emotional and/or behavioural disturbances to facilities within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS), including those being treated under the Mental Health Act (2016).
  • Provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to benefit the patients of the Townsville University Hospital and Health Service (THHS). This includes research as well as teaching the health professionals of the future.
  • Work in a collegial, multi-disciplinary team settings, within a supportive framework of peer and operational supports.
  • Lead and manage the provision of medical services in accordance with the standard of the speciality, the ethics of the profession and in accordance with the THHS and Queensland Health (QH) policies, in a hospital, community and outreach setting.
  • Position is available for a specialist psychiatrist in the field of: Adult Mental Health Services - Rural Consumers.

Role requirements
Qualifications in Psychiatry, recognised by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and current registration with/or eligibility for registration as a Specialist with the Medical Board of Australia.
