Clinical Nurse Consultant - Sexual Health

Join the BBV/STI Public Health Nursing Team within the Blood Borne Viruses and Sexually Transmissible Infections (BBVSTI) Unit of the Communicable Diseases Branch. In this advanced practice role, you will be responsible for the surveillance, prevention, and control of communicable diseases, with a focus on blood borne viruses and STIs. You will also contribute to a state-wide advisory service that supports clinicians in investigating and managing individuals who may be placing others at risk of HIV, in accordance with the Queensland Health Guideline for the Management of People with HIV Who Place Others at Risk.

What you'll do
- Provide advanced specialist nursing expertise in contemporary sexual health practice, particularly as it relates to BBV/STI prevention and management.
- Provide expert nursing advice in the development, interpretation, implementation and review of clinical guidelines impacting sexual health.
- Provide expert nursing advice to the Assistant Director of Nursing, BBV/STI Public Health Nursing Team and the BBV/STI Unit leadership team, colleagues, senior management, partners, and other stakeholders in relation to BBV/STI prevention, testing, treatment and management.
- Successfully develop, deliver, and evaluate projects through to completion, providing regular progress reports, and ensuring timeframes and budgets are met
- Prepare timely written reports, briefs, clinical guidelines, consumer materials and other publications for a range of audiences, to a high standard.
- Support Public Health Units and Sexual Health Services to provide confidential contact tracing and/or public health management of people with notified BBV/STI as required including XDR gonorrhoea.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- Proof of qualification and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and/or Midwife Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to the commencement of employment.
- A post graduate qualification or current enrolment in a post graduate program relating to sexual health or other relevant area of study is highly desirable.
- It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to become and remain an authorised Contact Tracing Officer under the Public Health Act 2005.
- Demonstrated advanced nursing knowledge of contemporary sexual health nursing or public health nursing and management of BBV/STI to promote individual and public health.
- Skill and experience in contact tracing and high-level understanding of guidelines and legislation concerning public health obligations of individuals and clinicians in the prevention of BBV/STIs and promotion of safe behaviours.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to build and maintain strong and effective working relationships across Queensland's public health system.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team with a commitment to fostering a positive team culture and collective responsibility for outcomes.
