About the Department:

About the Role:

As Principal Advisor, you will have the opportunity to work across three exciting and diverse portfolios and provide expert advice and support to the Assistant Director-General Reviews, Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, and senior executives in relation to the implementation and monitoring of key programs and initiatives and business operations.

Reviews, Curriculum, Teaching and Learning is multi-faceted and performs a large number of functions within the department. The Branch consists of three key business units:

  • Curriculum, Teaching and Learning
  • Strategic Initiatives and Innovation
  • Reviews and School Improvement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and provide high level advice and support to the Assistant Director-General and other senior officers of the Division with respect to the statewide implementation of strategic policy initiatives as they relate to state schooling including Australian government and whole of government initiatives, emerging initiatives and schooling policies and procedures.
  • Manage and quality assure the preparation of high level responses, reports, submissions, briefings and correspondence, as well as responses to the annual cycle of corporate strategic, budgeting and reporting requirements.
  • Respond to and coordinate responses to complex and sensitive issues and complaints emanating from the Office of the Minister, Director-General, Deputy Director-General and other high level sources.
  • Monitor, analyse and evaluate activities and work practices within the Branch to ensure alignment with changing corporate goals and to inform future planning.
  • Lead, manage and develop staff to deliver outcomes consistent with organisational directives, encouraging commitment, professional growth and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure the optimal use of human and financial resources to achieve agreed goals, contribute to project management, oversee the management of specific funding, and manage reporting requirements.
  • Develop, maintain and foster effective networks, consultation and liaison between the division, other program areas overseeing state schooling, other government departments, State and Commonwealth and other key stakeholders and partners in the support of the department's strategic agenda.
  • Promote strong policy and service delivery connections and foster strong collaborative partnerships across regions and across all schooling sectors.
  • Establish clear accountabilities to ensure that effort and resources are directed towards key priorities of the Branch.
  • Undertake other duties, including project management, as required to enable
  • Division objectives to be achieved.
