The Office of Industrial Relations (OIR) is looking for a dynamic and driven Principal Programs Officer to join the Business Innovation and Planning Unit (BIPU), part of the Office of the Deputy Director-General.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a key leadership role, helping shape and deliver strategic initiatives and programs that drive innovation, planning and portfolio excellence across the organisation.

About the Role

As Principal Programs Officer, you will play a pivotal role in leading OIR's portfolio management approach, ensuring our suite of initiatives is aligned with business goals, organisational governance, and emerging strategic priorities. This role offers the chance to influence outcomes, work across diverse teams, and build meaningful relationships—all while being at the forefront of innovation and continuous improvement in a dynamic government environment.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead OIR's portfolio management framework, embedding systems, processes and reporting across the organisation.
  • Support the implementation and delivery of initiatives and programs across OIR to meet strategic outcomes.
  • Ensure alignment of OIR's initiative portfolio with broader business objectives, risk and governance requirements, and identify trends and strategic opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with BIPU colleagues to ensure governance, planning and portfolio frameworks are cohesive, connected and consistently applied across all work packages.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including other government agencies, fostering cross-agency collaboration and networks.
  • Respond flexibly to changing priorities, which may include undertaking alternative duties or working from other locations temporarily or permanently to meet service delivery needs.

  • Strong capabilities, experience or qualifications in portfolio or project management, risk, governance or strategic planning.
  • The ability to navigate complex organisational structures, influence stakeholders and cultivate innovation.
  • Resilience, sound judgement and the ability to make thoughtful, well-informed decisions in dynamic environments.
  • Proven success in managing competing priorities while driving outcomes with efficiency and accountability.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively and build enduring professional relationships.
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, enhancing equity, diversity, inclusion and respect in the workplace.

Qualifications:

There are no mandatory qualifications for this position. However, qualifications or experience in corporate risk, governance, or strategic program delivery will be highly regarded.
