James Cook University and the Townsville Hospital and Health Service, is seeking an outstanding surgical thought leader and innovator for the position of Conjoint Professor of Surgery based at Northern Australia's only tertiary referral hospital.

James Cook University is Australia's leading university in producing medical graduates who go on to regional careers and in research on issues affecting rural and tropical populations. The Townsville University Hospital is co-located with the James Cook University Bebegu Yumba Campus in a vibrant health and knowledge precinct.

Position: Conjoint Professor of Surgery

Vacancy: Permanent full-time

Location: Townsville University Hospital and James Cook University, Townsville

About the role:

The appointee will be an outstanding role model, a collaborator, thought leader and a champion for high quality, person-centred surgical services. He or she will be an established clinician researcher with a record of impact in medical education, teaching and training.

The Professor of Surgery will spearhead advancement of surgical research, education, training and surgical care for the north of Australia, influencing and inspiring colleagues and developing the next generation of medical graduates, surgeons and clinical researchers.

Enjoy a generous remuneration package value up to $536,916 p.a. comprising:

  • Salary range: $8062.00 to $10,221.70 p.f. (L18-L27)
  • Annual leave with 17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
  • Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available

Requirements:

  • Mandatory qualifications and proof of registration.
  • All applicants must be awarded SoCP by the THHS Credentialing and SoCP committee.
  • Travel is a requirement of this position - including overnight stays.
  • It is a requirement of this position to occasionally work outside of the ordinary span of hours.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role. Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Tuberculosis.
  • Probation period may apply.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted including criminal history clearance.
