About the role

  • Deliver high quality social work clinical services as part of the multidisciplinary team to patients of Renal Medicine, across Metro North Hospital and Health Service. The position will function as part of the multidisciplinary Kidney Health team of The Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH) and will entail outreach work across Metro North Kidney Health Service including Nundah, Chermside; Kallangur, Redcliffe, Northlakes and Bribie Island Satellite Hospitals. This role will be based at Northlakes Health Precinct and outreach to Redcliffe and Kallangur, and will provide cover as required to locations across the service.
  • Provide leadership in professional education, practice supervision and mentoring of less experienced staff and students within the Cancer Care and Chronic Disease Social Work team.
  • Contribute to research and quality improvement initiatives within Renal Medicine and the Department of Social Work at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Knowledge, skills and expertise

  • Demonstrated experience and skill in social work psychosocial assessment and risk management in complex situations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with domestic and family violence and child protection assessment and intervention.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate safe and timely discharge of complex patients in a time pressured environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide different treatment modalities and therapeutic counselling and advocacy for patients experiencing life threatening illnesses. 
  • Demonstrated ability to apply established ethical principles and practice standards to core social work clinical services and social work tasks.

Team Participation / Communication

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively participate in social work and multidisciplinary teams and to communicate, negotiate and advocate across teams, the organisation and external agencies. 
  • Ability to actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health safety and ethical behaviour.

Leadership / Work Unit Management

  • Commensurate with experience, demonstrated ability to provide clinical practice supervision to less experienced staff members and/or field education to students.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to effectively triage a high volume of referrals.
