Established in 1982 by founding curator Bill Kitson, the museum holds a rich collection of historical maps, instruments, photographs, diaries, and artworks. In this role, you’ll support the Senior Curator in managing and caring for the museum’s unique physical collection.

We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Collections and Conservation Assistant. In this role, you will play a vital part in preserving our cultural heritage by assisting with the organization and maintenance of our physical collection, ensuring that each object is handled in accordance with established conservation principles.
Your responsibilities will include supporting the re-housing of historical artifacts, constructing custom-fitted nesting solutions to safeguard their integrity. You will also participate in the meticulous cleaning of objects, adhering to best practices in conservation to maintain their condition. Implementing preventive conservation measures will be a key aspect of your role, helping to protect the collection from potential deterioration. Additionally, you will assist in documenting new acquisitions, ensuring accurate and comprehensive records are maintained. Flexibility and a proactive approach are essential, as you may be called upon to carry out other duties as required.
We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates a strong interest in museum collection management and cultural materials conservation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to think analytically and solve problems effectively. While a degree in Museology, Cultural Materials Conservation, or a related discipline is not mandatory, such qualifications or current studies in these areas will be highly regarded.
