Senior Legal Officer

Reporting to a Principal Legal Officer, the Senior Legal Officer will primarily advise and represent QCS in relation to disciplinary matters involving QCS employees who have been subject to ethical standards investigations.
The Senior Legal Officer may also be required to provide advice in other areas of practice including litigation and preparation of associated documentation and submissions, coronial investigations and inquests, administrative law and statutory interpretation, judicial review matters, anti-discrimination matters, personal injury matters, commercial contracts and agreements and operational practices and procedures.

In this role you will:
- Provide authoritative legal advice (both written and oral) in relation to disciplinary matters involving QCS staff and processes, recommended outcomes and decisions, emerging or current case law, legislative governance and risk mitigation and in relation to departmental activities and contentious issues, often of a complex and sensitive nature and which may be the subject of litigation, which are under consideration by the Minister, Commissioner, Executive Team and other senior QCS officers.
- Prepare timely advice, reports, correspondence and briefing notes on legal issues including statutory interpretation in relation to QCS activities and the law reform initiatives of external agencies.
- Liaise with Crown Law and other legal service providers to ensure a consistent, coordinated and effective approach to the provision of legal services involving QCS.
- Undertake legal research, analysis, review and evaluation to ensure that QCS' activities, including its operations and procedures, satisfy public sector standards for accountability and effectiveness.

- Possess the leadership and integrity expected of a senior professional officer necessary to manage sensitive and complex issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication and negotiation skills in a legal environment.
- Ability to contribute to a positive work environment which is customer focused and dedicated to meeting client expectations and requirements.
Qualifications, professional registration, conditions and other requirements
- Admission as a solicitor or barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland with at least 4 years' post admission experience.
