Your opportunity:

This is a temporary flexible full-time position for a period of 12 months, based in Brisbane.

The Pre-Committal Chambers is a new team within the ODPP, funded through the Forensic DNA File Review Project to work on matters in the lower courts in order to assist the assessment of relevance of DNA evidence to the progression of cases to prosecution.

As a leader within the ODPP, you will display high-level integrity, ethics and probity, the ability to adapt to a changing environment, a focus on achievement, and excellent communication and negotiation skills. Building a constructive culture is key to achieving our strategic and organisational objectives. Key responsibilities include:

• workload and vacancy management;
• oversight of staff leave arrangement;
• mentoring and supervision of staff; and
• allocation of files and circuit responsibilities.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Criminal litigation experience and the ability to work effectively as an advocate in the Magistrates and/or higher courts, manage and motivate legal and support staff including managing performance and identifying professional development opportunities.
• The ability to lead or contribute to organisational initiatives and reviews aimed at improving outcomes, and consult, negotiate and communicate to build productive partnerships with a range of stakeholders.
• The ability to apply well developed interpersonal and communication skills to liaise, consult and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders, and identify and address the needs of victims of crime.
• The ability to report on performance data and manage the operations of the work unit and contribute to state-wide initiatives and reviews.
• Commitment to professional and ethical standards.

About the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) represents the State of Queensland in criminal cases. The ODPP's significant responsibility is to prosecute criminal matters in the High Court of Australia, Court of Appeal (Qld), Supreme Court, Mental Health Court, District Court, the Childrens Court of Queensland and the Magistrates Court (in limited locations and matters).

Mandatory qualifications

You will be admitted as a Legal Practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia (please indicate date of admission in your application).
