Charters Towers School of Distance Education is seeking a highly organised and self-motivated Administrative Officer to join our team on a permanent full-time basis.

In this role, you will work closely with the Business Manager, focusing on providing day-to-day human resources support, while also assisting with finance and general administrative tasks that contribute to the effective and efficient administrative management of the school.

About Charters Towers School of Distance Education

Our school provides quality education to school-aged children. People choose distance education for their children for a variety of factors. Details on eligibility for studying by distance education are available on our enrolments page.

Our students are spread throughout the state, country and world.

Our school was the first Distance Education school to open in Queensland in 1987 and still leads in the use of technology to enable communication with our students and their tutors. We use traditional means of communication like mail and telephone as well as audio-teleconferencing, video, and the Internet to cross the barriers of distance and create the bonds of a school community. We prepare people for the future.

About the Role

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform a variety of day-to-day administrative services and tasks that are routine in nature as directed by the Business Manager.
  • Provide operational support and advice across a broad range of HR matters.
  • Coordinate staff movements, manage HR processes and procedures, and respond to employee enquiries regarding entitlements and workplace support.
  • Administer day-to-day financial matters (e.g., receipting, reconciling, claims, input and extract financial data using OneSchool).
  • Resolve basic issues within established procedures, and consulting with the Business Manager for more complex or non-routine matters.

About You

This role would be suitable for someone who:

  • Has the ability to problem solve and shows initiative.
  • Is highly skilled in multi-tasking and time management.
  • Is able to work autonomously to plan and prioritise work schedules and tasks within a well-defined environment, under regular managerial supervision.
  • Has the ability to work harmoniously within a team.
  • Has excellent digital skills and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous experience in a school office setting with knowledge of OneSchool/Agresso would be an advantage.
