The Perioperative and Outpatients Services with Townsville Hospital and Health Services are seeking an experienced and client focused Optometrist - Advanced.

This is a temporary part-time role, up to 18/04/2026, working 40 hours per fortnight (with a possibility of an extension not exceed 12 months)

The Optometrist - Advanced will deliver expert optometry consultancy services and facilitate early access to appropriate clinical management as part of the Specialist Clinics Service, independently applying expert level clinical reasoning and expertise to a complex caseload of patients referred for Specialist opinion at the Townsville University Hospital..

About the opportunity:

Position: Optometrist - Advanced

Vacancy: Fixed Term Temporary part-time, up to 18/04/2026, with a possibility of an extension - not exceeding 12 months (40 hours per fortnight)

Location: Perioperative and Outpatient Services, Townsville University Hospital

The Optometrist - Advanced provides expert diagnosis, advanced clinical skills and case management of patients with complex ophthalmology conditions referred to Specialist Ophthalmology Outpatients for opinion and management as part of the Optometry Screening Clinics and Multidisciplinary Ophthalmology Services within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service.

  • Salary range: $73.12 to $76.30 p.h. (HP5)
  • 4 weeks annual leave (pro rata) with 17.5% loading

Requirements:

  • Mandatory requirements are possession of a qualification in Optometry from a recognised tertiary institution and current registration with the Optometry Board of Australia.
  • Significant professional development and experience relevant to the management of complex ophthalmology conditions is required. A post graduate Masters Qualification, or equivalent in Optometry is highly desirable.
  • This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
  • This is a VPD risk role and the successful applicant will need to meet the necessary mandatory requiements.
