Clinical Assistant/Phlebotomist

This role is key to supporting the routine and critical functions of the laboratory. This involves; specimen reception, specimen processing for analysis and referral, consumables and stock control as well as assisting scientific staff to perform a range of diagnostic tests at the Bundaberg laboratory

Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated experience or ability to acquire experience in the correct procedures of specimen collection/phlebotomy including the application of established policies and guidelines with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge of the importance of standard precautions in dealing with patients and biological specimens.
- Demonstrated experience or ability to acquire experience in the correct procedures of preanalytical processing of specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Proven ability to follow instructions and work conscientiously and accurately with minimal supervision after careful instruction.
- Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff and colleagues.
- Positive focus upon patient care within a hospital health care environment.
- Demonstrate a high level of commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrate the ability to work accurately and give attention to detail.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- In some circumstances and following consultation, Queensland Health staff may be required to participate in 24 hour shift or on-call arrangements.
- Certificate III in Pathology is not mandatory but would be highly regarded
- To be eligible for permanent appointment to Pathology Queensland applicants must provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency. To be eligible for temporary appointment applicants must provide proof that they can legally work in Australia.
