About the School:
Cleveland Education and Training Centre (CETC) is a unique Department of Education school within the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre in Townsville, delivering high-quality education to young people aged 10 to 18 from across Northern Queensland who have experienced disrupted schooling. Staff are part of a supportive, purpose-driven team dedicated to making a real difference through inclusive and meaningful education.
About the Role:
As a Youth Support Coordinator (Identified), you will provide individual and group support to help students stay engaged with education and training, under the guidance of the Head of Department and teaching staff. You'll deliver culturally appropriate case management and develop holistic support plans to assist students through transitions. Strong organisational and time management skills are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities may include:
- This role may require work during school holidays.
- Assist with transporting students to attend classes (an open driver's licence is essential).
- Identify barriers preventing young people from achieving positive outcomes and refer them to appropriate support services.
- Maintain accurate daily records of student contact.
- Support students in achieving satisfactory learning outcomes.
- Develop and monitor post-program support as needed to meet performance criteria.
- Build and maintain strong relationships between the school and students' families to support at-risk students in staying engaged with education or training.
- Conduct home visits with students and their families, where appropriate, to provide advice and strategies for a more positive educational experience.
- Collaborate as part of a professional team, working closely with teachers, guidance officers, special needs staff, administrative officers, welfare agencies, and other government departments.
- Monitor student attendance and, in line with the school's attendance plan, implement early intervention strategies.
- Inform and educate parents, community members, and students on issues impacting student engagement.
- Develop and implement programs that support social and emotional wellbeing, such as those addressing social skills, assertiveness, or self-esteem.
- Identify and provide appropriate support for students experiencing challenges at school or home that may put them at risk of disengaging or leaving school prematurely.
