Please note that Forensic Science Queensland (FSQ) has recently been through a Machinery of Government change, and as of 1 July 2024, was administratively assigned to the Department of Justice. 

About the Role:

We are seeking two experienced professionals to join our team:

  • Senior Forensic Biologist – Training (Permanent position)
  • Senior Forensic Chemist – Training (Temporary, 12-months)

Both roles are key to supporting the production, maintenance, and improvement of quality systems for Forensic Science Queensland. These positions will ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and other regulatory and legislative requirements while focusing on scientific training and educational strategies.

The Senior Forensic Biologist – Training and Senior Forensic Chemist – Training will coordinate competency-based training, engage with key stakeholders, and contribute to the development and continuous improvement of scientific practices within FSQ.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Oversee competency-based training to develop and maintain scientific expertise across the FSQ workforce.
  • Collaborate on the development, implementation, and review of training strategies.
  • Facilitate staff inductions, performance development, and mentoring to support scientific staff in their roles.
  • Provide expert advice on the use of technology in service delivery and contribute to innovative strategies in FSQ operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve FSQ processes and training based on internal audits and operational reviews.
  • Stay informed about external training advancements and build relationships to enhance FSQ capabilities.
  • Collect, validate, and report data on FSQ processes to drive quality improvements.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Possession of a relevant undergraduate degree in science or forensic science is mandatory for this position.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications or at least five years' of experience in a relevant area of practice are highly desirable.
  • Experience in quality systems management, training, and education in a forensic or scientific setting is advantageous.
