About the role

Deliver high quality evidence based clinical services and leadership for identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers requiring mental health support as part of a multidisciplinary perinatal wellbeing team. This also involves adopting a sustained cross-Government focus on strengthening cultural competence. This position also provides clinical practice and professional supervision to less experienced relevant allied health professionals to ensure the maintenance of professional clinical standards within the service.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Work with and collaborate with Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander staff internally and externally to ensure that practice is delivered in a culturally safe and responsive manner.
  • Deliver contemporary high level clinical services based on profession specific valid and reliable evidence, for antenatal and postnatal patients and their partners identified as requiring specialist mental health treatment across MNH.
  • Apply high level professional judgement and decision making to a complex and critical caseload, adapting routine clinical practice based on valid and reliable clinical evidence utilising high level clinical problem-solving skills. This includes supporting consumers with histories of complex childhood sexual abuse and other adverse childhood experiences, complex trauma (including previous birth trauma), emotional dysregulation and personality vulnerabilities.
  • Provide advice on the management of mental health problems to health professionals with the aim of ensuring appropriate and necessary ongoing treatments and build capacity within Ngaramma maternity service around Mental health and support of consumers with special regard to cultural appropriateness within a trauma informed care framework.
