This is an exciting leadership professional learning opportunity offered by the Education Futures Institute (EFI) for Queensland Department of Education staff.

This 12-month program supports participants to harness the behaviours, knowledge and skills they need to embark on a career as an aspiring principal. Through targeted learning opportunities, they will be supported as the future leader of a school community to help every student realise their potential.

This cohort is for high-performing educators who are committed to leading as the principal in all contexts except those pursing SL1 or SL2 roles.

The Education Futures Institute is a key system initiative in the department's education strategy, Equity and Excellence: Realising the potential of every student, to empower departmental staff, educators, school and system leaders to build professional expertise through high quality, targeted capability development across their career.The Education Futures Institute delivers a suite of flagship programs that are comprehensive professional learning experiences targeted to career junctures.

Program design is underpinned by professional standards and contemporary research aligned to the Department of Education's current and emerging strategic priorities and workforce needs. Programs aim to empower Queensland state school staff, educators and leaders and will be co-designed and delivered with internal and external partners, including academic, tertiary and industry leaders.

The Flagship Aspiring Principal Program is a targeted leadership capability development program providing participants the opportunity to develop their personal and professional capabilities on their journey to becoming an effective school and system principal in a Queensland state school.

Over a 12-month duration, program participants will take part in three residential leadership learning workshops, virtual masterclasses, two sets of three-day field experience opportunities, and will engage in a range of network learning opportunities. Detailed information about the program can be accessed on the EFI Catalogue (Department of Education staff only) and all applicants are encourage to access this information before applying.

The Aspiring Principal Program is open to high performing educators who are committed to leading a state school. Differentiated to support context-specific career aspirations.

Do not apply for this program if you are an aspiring Level 1 or Level 2 School Principal. You should only apply for the State-wide Recruitment Pool and associated Small School Principal Preparation Program.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Applicants must be permanent teachers or school leaders with the Queensland Department of Education.
  • Applicants must possess full registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.
