About the Role:
Provide leadership and expertise in the delivery of world-class forensic services that uphold the integrity of the Queensland justice system. This is a senior leadership role offering the opportunity to manage and drive the future of Forensic Chemistry operations, including the Quality and Support, Illicit Drug, Clandestine Laboratory Analysis, and Trace Evidence functions.
As the Executive Manager, you will be at the forefront of strategic leadership, ensuring FSQ delivers high-quality, timely, and innovative forensic services. You will oversee compliance, scientific leadership, quality assurance, and manage a talented multi-disciplinary team. In addition, you will foster an environment that promotes continuous learning and collaboration, both internally and with external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Forensic Chemistry department, ensuring compliance with NATA accreditation and other relevant standards.
- Provide expert scientific advice, contribute to strategic planning, and oversee operational performance.
- Manage multi-disciplinary teams in Quality and Support, Illicit Drug Analysis, Clandestine Labs, and Trace Evidence.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality forensic services to the Queensland Police, judiciary, and other agencies.
- Oversee budget management and resource allocation in line with FSQ's strategic goals.
- Foster a positive, innovative, and safe work culture, supporting staff development and performance.
- Represent FSQ at internal and external scientific forums and collaborate on research initiatives.
- Maintain effective stakeholder relationships and resolve client issues to ensure satisfaction.
The ideal candidate will have proven leadership experience in a forensic chemistry environment, with expertise in managing complex forensic casework, including the detection, identification, and analysis of materials. A strong ability to interpret analytical results and present findings clearly in court is essential. You should be skilled in developing and implementing policies and scientific processes in line with NATA and ISO accreditation standards, and have the interpersonal and negotiation abilities needed to manage stakeholder relationships and resolve issues effectively. A deep understanding of contemporary forensic science standards and a track record of fostering innovation and process improvements will be key to your success in this role.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Applied Science, or a relevant field from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Postgraduate qualifications in forensic science or related research and publications would be highly regarded.
- Extensive experience in forensic chemistry, laboratory management, and policy development.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large teams and complex scientific operations in a regulated environment.
