About Geriatric Evaluation and Management / Acute Cognitive Unit

The Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit (GEM) provides comprehensive care for older patients, offering multidisciplinary support for both clinical issues functional rehabilitation which also includes an Acute Cognitive Unit (ACU) dedicated to managing patients living with dementia and experiencing severe Behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), providing a highly structured environment with psychogeriatric support.

About your new role

As a valued member of the GEM and ACU team, you will deliver comprehensive, person-centred, and evidence-based care within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment. Your focus will be on promoting the wellbeing of older adults by partnering closely with patients and their families to reduce the impact of hospitalisation and improve quality of life.  This includes

  • Providing high quality, patient focused nursing care
  • The ability to identify risks and demonstrate escalation skills
  • Applying evidence-based care to optimise patient outcomes and service performance
  • Promoting teamwork through patient and family first care

Qualifications

  • A NMBA approved qualification in medication administration. Completion of 519HLTEN A, B or C or 007HLTEN (evidenced by transcript) will be highly regarded
  • Registration with the Nursing Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Demonstrated experience as an Enrolled Nurse
  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
  • Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
  • Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Salary

  • Permanent Full time and Permanent Part Time (multiple positions, hours negotiable)
  • Temporary Full time and Temporary Part time (multiple positions, hours negotiable, up to 12 months with possibility of extension)
  • Base salary ranging from $71 234 - $75 602 per annum or $35.92 - $38.12 per hour
