We have a temporary part-time position available in the Koala Research and Monitoring Teams within the Threatened Species Operations Unit. Are you excited by the opportunity to work in the field to support threatened species recovery and biodiversity conservation outcomes in some of the most diverse and iconic natural areas in Queensland? As Technical Officer in Threatened Species Operations you will use your skills to collect and collate data to inform Threatened Species recovery, with a focus on koalas.
The person that we are looking for has a good level of physical fitness, willingness to work away from home and overnight on a regular basis, ability to work in a small team, capacity to accurately record data as well as use specialist programs (such as ArcGIS) to prepare and collate data.

As a TO2 Technical Officer, you will be part of the Threatened Species Operations Unit, focused on research and monitoring of threatened species. The team is responsible for providing scientific advice for threatened species planning and management, monitoring programs for priority threatened species, undertaking priority research to inform species and threat management, identification of research gaps, fostering and growing partnerships with research institutions, sharing knowledge (through publications, reports, media, conferences), delivering training and data management and access.
This position requires specialist skills in identification, assessment and data recording of native wildlife, specifically threatened species. The activities undertaken in the role can be physically demanding and include survey and monitoring of threatened species in the field, maintenance of field equipment and safety systems, and education and training oversight of volunteers. Periods of office work are also required to compile reports and prepare field documentation. Proven experience working collaboratively in a small team and proficiency in excel and ArcGIS will be highly regarded.
To be successful in this position you must have:
• Demonstrated, or ability to acquire, competency in research and analysis.
• Proven ability to provide technical support and advice to Senior staff, with experience with wildlife survey and monitoring techniques.
• Ability to build relationships, communicate with a range of clients and stakeholders.
• Ability to manage priorities and achieve outcomes within specified timeframes.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a small team.
