West Moreton Health has the largest correctional health service in the state and with the new men’s correctional centre located in the Lockyer Valley region, we are seeking a Clinical Nurse Consultant to join the team.
Prison & Youth Detention Health Services is a primary care model which aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people in prison.

About the role
The Clinical Nurse Consultant - Prisoner Triage is an advanced clinical practice registered nurse who provides clinical support and nursing leadership. This position provides expert knowledge, skill and abilities for clinical care and guides clinical practice across prison health centres to support patient centred triage and pathways. This position also supports the Nurse Unit Manager to meet the strategic and operation objectives of patient-centred care within a Correctional Centre and within an inter-professional team framework.
About the Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre
The Lockyer Valley is the picturesque ‘food bowl' of South-east Queensland. The region and surrounding towns offer country living with city convenience which makes it an attractive location to live and work. The new centre is just over 30mins drive from Toowoomba, 42mins from Ipswich or just over 1 hour from Brisbane City.
Once fully operational, the correctional centre will be a 1536 bed, high secure men's prison. The Queensland Corrective Services operating model of the centre represent a new direction with many services being onsite, including mental health, alcohol, and drug rehabilitation services
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Contemporary expert level of knowledge, clinical nursing skills, expertise and experience in contemporary primary health care and correctional health clinical practice related to assessment, treatment and care.
- Ability to provide specialist clinical advice to communicate, consult, liaise and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders engaged in service delivery to patients. This includes demonstrated clinical skills and ability in the development and maintenance of collaborative partnerships at the individual, agency and inter-sectoral levels.
- Proven leadership skills, including the ability to initiate, develop, implement and evaluate a range of health support information programs and other resources for staff involved in the care of patients within a primary health model of care.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate primary health clinical practices, tools, protocols and guidelines to ensure optimum standards of primary health care and outcomes for patients within Correctional Centres.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
