Dakabin State High School is looking for a Head of Department - Science to join our passionate team. Our school was presented with a Showcase Excellence Award for the Metropolitan North Region which is recognition for the great work being undertaken by our teachers to create Assessment Literate Learners. This is a temporary full-time position until 6 June 2026, unless otherwise determined.

About Us:
Dakabin State High School has created a culture of high performing teachers by investing in them through a timetable which has created space for a 70 minute paid Professional Learning Team time whilst also engaging students in Academic Intervention in English, Mathematics and Science. Teachers are also able to engage in Curriculum Teaching and Learning time each morning as another initiative of Dakabin State High School investing in their staff. The school also has a dedicated Deputy Principal of HR to offer support to teachers regarding their work/life balance and issues, as well as be able to support staff in a coaching capacity.
The teachers are supported by their faculty HOD as well as a behaviour HUB with a dedicated Deputy Principal, HOD Student Engagement and Year Level Coordinators to support classroom practice. Dakabin State High School also has an Aspirant program which is currently providing the opportunity for staff to gain opportunities in higher level positions. Dakabin State High School also supports New and Beginning Teachers in a fortnightly program. Dakabin State High School enables their staff to be engaged in committees such as Wellbeing, PBL, Inclusivity and Pedagogy.
About the Role:
Responsibilities include, but not limited to;
- Set high standards for student and staff performance.
- Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
- Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
- Be futures oriented and strategic.
- Understand the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students and staff within the school department.
