The opportunity
As our Senior Horticulturist, you will:
• Be part of DPI's commitment to increasing the value of Queensland's primary industries to $30 billion by 2030. Drawing upon your knowledge of supply chains and experience with extension methodologies, support horticulture businesses and industry groups to increase knowledge and adoption of innovative post-harvest handling technologies, digital tools and practices for delivering more consistent fresh produce quality to markets
• Initiate and lead a modern, successful extension program, including project development, within the Supply Chain Innovation team that responds to industry needs and knowledge gaps by increasing awareness and building capacity and skills to create change, with a focus on commercial outcomes and evaluation of impacts
• Assist horticulture industry and stakeholders to transition to digital supply chains by integrating new technologies and practices that improves product quality management
• Actively contribute to the monitoring and reporting of the impact and value of industry adoption of best management practices in the context of environmental, social and governance principles
• Engage with researchers within the team to maximise the value of data and translate learnings into decision support for extension to industry stakeholders that lead to consumer outcomes
• Identify and evaluate products and services that deliver impact to industry stakeholders seeking to improve supply chain performance and develop domestic and export markets
• Analyse and resolve risks to optimise supply chain logistics and management of the flow of information, goods and services from farm to consumer
What we are looking for:
There are some qualifications and licences that we see as essential. You must possess a:
• Tertiary qualification in Horticulture, Rural Science/Sociology, Agribusiness or equivalent in a field relevant to the position.
• A current Queensland ‘C' class drivers' licence.
This is a full-time position that will include travel to regional Queensland, interstate and possible overseas. This may include out of hours work and occasional weekend work.
