The role
This senior leadership role offers the opportunity to lead and drive the future of Forensic Chemistry operations, including the Quality and Support, Illicit Drug, Clandestine Laboratory Analysis, and Trace Evidence functions. As the Executive Manager, you will be at the forefront of strategic leadership, leading change and improvement initiatives to ensure FSQ delivers high-quality, timely, and innovative forensic services. You will:
- Oversee compliance with NATA accreditation and all relevant standards
- Deliver scientific leadership and excellence
- Manage and optimise quality assurance
- Oversee budget management and resource allocation
- Lead and develop high performing multi-disciplinary teams, fostering a positive, innovative, and safe work culture that promotes continuous learning, collaboration and development
The successful person
You will have proven excellence and achievements in team leadership in a forensic chemistry environment, with extensive experience in forensic chemistry, laboratory management, and policy development. You possess expertise in managing complex forensic casework, including detection, identification, and analysis of materials, and strong ability to interpret analytical results and present findings clearly in court.
You will have proven:
- Ability to lead change and coordinate the implementation of contemporary and innovative scientific processes, procedures and concepts
- Ability to identify, manage and mitigate risks supported by substantial knowledge of contemporary forensic science standards, requirements and techniques
- Strong skills in developing and implementing policies and scientific processes in line with NATA and ISO accreditation standards
- Highly effective interpersonal, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Deep understanding of contemporary forensic science standards and a track record of fostering innovation and process improvements
- Demonstrated ability to manage large teams and complex scientific operations in a regulated environment
- Evidence of required vaccination
Qualifications Required:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Applied Science, or a relevant field from a recognised tertiary institution
- Related postgraduate qualifications or research and publications would be highly regarded
About us
Located at Coopers Plains, Brisbane, FSQ operates specialised Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry and Forensic Operations functions that provides forensic services and expert advice to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the Coroner's Court of Queensland.
Our work at FSQ involves exposure to material related to deaths and criminal offences that may be confronting, due to its graphic and personal nature. Sensitive and professional management of exhibits and information is a critical requirement of this role. The successful candidate will have personal qualities that include well developed resilience, tact and effective strategies for managing themselves and their ability to support colleagues in situations that may be distressing and stressful.
Please note that following a Machinery of Government (MoG) change, as of 1 July 2024, Forensic Science Queensland was administratively assigned to the Department of Justice.
